Q4 Wellness Check
My brother-in-law Chris loves to organize his life thinking of the four quarters of the year.
Q1: January, February and March
Q2: April, May and June
Q3: July, August and September
Q4: October, November and December
Each quarter represents strategic planning and effort, reaping the fruits of one’s labor and of course abundant opportunity.
I’ve always admired Chris’s organized life and goal setting with the power four – as I coined it.
Therefore, this blog spotlights the fourth quarter from a wellness perspective.
How do you break down the year? Or do you?
I like this idea of four quarters, and while I have not made it a habit to plan the quarters; this year I am considering what I have to do for the fourth quarter or the remainder of this Calander year – with special emphasis to my wellness.
The fourth quarter, is associated with tying up loose ends, closing the books and enduring the hectic holiday season. Everything is coming to a wrap and the heat is on to stay balanced in the midst of all the added festivities.
Today, let’s evaluate and plan Q4 or the fourth quarter with actions to preserve our mind, body and spirit sanity.
First of all, how do you envision the end of year? Does it look over booked, overloaded and packed? How do you feel? Is there something that must be handled before Dec 31 rolls around? Sit back a minute and take inventory to prioritize obligations. You may have to say no to a few things? It’s ok, you don't have to hit every party, eat every cookie, drink every drink and go to every charity event. Pick and choose. Make sure that a yes to someone else is not a no to you.
Next, Q4 always feels like it’s months of no sleep. Sleep is important to your wellness, your stability and your decision making. Therefore- Get enough rest. Sneak in naps.
Food is essential so eat plenty of nourishing and fuel-based foods to give you energy. Protein is great for this. Avoid grabbing the sugar and carbs for fast energy.... this will cause you to crash and burn. Don't skip meals, it will only cause fatigue. Monitor the amount of food you are eating, and I would go as far as to pack protein snacks every day in December. Food on the go in the event you get trapped and delayed. Excellent healthy foods to grab and go: almonds, pistachios, cheese sticks, grilled chicken strips, sliced turkey rolls, yogurt and veggies/hummus. If you need a cooler/ snack/lunch tote, consider the newest Kefi L!fe insulated tote available at kefilife.com.
Health is Wealth. Hold yourself accountable to your wellbeing. Practice daily self-care; whether it’s walking in the morning, drinking your required water intake, connecting with a friend to vent or get advice. And by all means, if you can afford it, schedule a massage. A massage will release tension, relax muscles and help you sleep more sound.
Finally- include a little sparkle, sizzle and dazzle to your presentation, your energy and your wardrobe.
Shine like the season does.
Light up that smile.
Pop that color, add those stones, wear those hip sneakers and by all means keep a grateful attitude
Wishing you a strong mind, plenty of rest and lots of positive thoughts during this fourth quarter/ end of year. We did good...we are still breathing and we are still in the game!
