Get Your Pink Back!

Pregnancy and childbirth, in my estimation, are two of the most miraculous things a woman will experience.  I have given birth to four children.  The pregnancy process changed me as a person and as a woman.  The growing pains of it were profound, but with this immense responsibility, I occasionally forgot myself.

It’s ok, the reward was incomparable.

Nevertheless, when I started to lose sight of “Kiki,” I felt the pangs of another birth, the one to regain my personal wellbeing.

I believe it’s safe to say that after any major transformation, training, work or metamorphosis, we as people feel our spirits desire the need to “fill our cup,” or in a woman’s world, “Get your pink back.”

GET YOUR PINK BACK

The phrase “Getting your pink back,” was popularized by a social media influencer Lindsey Gurk, and she coined it for new parents, especially mothers, to inspire them to regain themselves pre-parenthood.

THE INSPIRATION

The inspiration for “PINK,” is attributed to a flamingo metaphor.  Flamingos can lose their vibrant pink color while raising their young, but eventually regain it.

Ladies, if you are in need of “Getting your pink back,” I’m here to tell you, “You deserve it.”

My mother used to regularly emphasize the value of self-care by saying “Take care of yourself so you can take care of others.”

WHAT DOES TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF LOOK LIKE?

TIME

Time is always at the forefront of the mission for wellness and enriching the spirit.  How you fill your “PINK,” time is bio-individual, and you know what you need. Is it a stretch, a massage, hair and toes done, lunch with friends, planning your “Bucket List,” trip or something else?  Schedule your pink time.

PINK

Color is a magnetic force.   The hues, shades and brightness of a particular color will evoke and invoke wonderful emotions and feelings, even a sense of confidence.  The color pink for example has a rich legacy dating all the way back to Homer’s Odyssey in 800 B.C.  The term itself was created in the 17th century by a Greek botanist for the ruffled edges of carnations.  By the mid 18th century all the aristocrats wore pink as a symbol of class and luxury.  Red, coral, orchid, cotton candy, light pink, salmon and fuchsia are each a color to lift spirits and elevate the soul to a euphoric state.  Sport some pink today.

MOVEMENT

We as people are created to move our bodies.  Movement, exercise, walking, weight lifting or any form of fitness must be regularly incorporated into our lives.  My research and observation are that fitness is the first thing to be left behind for a great number of busy people.  This neglect will catch up in a negative way either by weight gain, stress or illness.  Get your exercise on!  Sign up for a class.  Get a workout buddy for accountability or hire a personal trainer.  One of my favorite quotes about a fit body is by Jim Rohn “Take care of your body.  It’s the only place you have to live.”

NUTRITION

You may have gained a few pounds or you may be eating food that is not exactly anti-inflammatory, which will cause fatigue and sluggishness.  Therefore, if you are going to “Get your pink back,” you must eat for energy and good mood.  Why?  Because when you feed your body essential vitamins and nutrients, your mood and overall well-being will be positively impacted.  You may remember my interview with Dr Georgia last week, when she mentioned the importance of a healthy gut.  She stated that the gut is the primitive brain of the body and it regulates mood and emotions with a diet rich in fiber and probiotics.    Nourishing a body for health is a form of reclaiming your best self.

Time, movement and nutrition are three important elements to keep in high priority as you “Get your pink back,” for a better tomorrow.   Afterall, when you do the things that nourish your mind, body and soul, you strengthen your inner resources, executing the day with more energy and release the “pink” endorphins for a feel-good return to your authentic self.

Wishing you the best on your quest,
