Hesychasm

Yiasou! Hello, today we are exploring ways to improve and or obtain mental wellness through a practice called hesychasm.

Today more than ever, stress is killing us.  Many people complain about the pace of life and how it prohibits peace of mind and rest.

How can we manage this phenomenon more well known to the masses as stress?

Studies prove that mismanaged stress will lead to psychological behavioral and biological problems.

One way to break free from stress, which can inflame your body, is to adapt a form of hesychasm.

The word  "hesychasm" comes from the Greek word hēsychia, which means "quiet" or "rest". The tradition has roots in early Christian monasticism but took its definitive form in the 14th century at Mount Athos.   This contemplative monastic tradition rooted in Eastern Christianity involves seeking divine stillness through uninterrupted prayer.  You could also say meditation.

Practicing Hesychia or quiet through prayer and mediation, signals your mind to focus on one thing. You get rid of the stream of thoughts that may be crowding your mind and causing stress.

HOW TO DO HESYCHIA:

  1. This quiet time or Hesychia can last 10 minutes, or the time you have in the allotted period.

  2. Combine Hesychia with Andrew Weil 4-7-8 breathing technique.

  3. Go out into nature and walk without technology or talking.  Walk, breathe and relax.   Ground yourself in the element of Mother Nature.

Adopt, and modify if necessary,  this practice of Hesychia to more or less guard your mind from the 'noise' which your senses create.  Through the silence and inner prayer/ mantra/ meditation, you become more receptive to your inner voice.

Essentially friend, you soothe and heal your soul.

Once you have quieted the mind you have made way for the intended purpose of your day.
