Ancient Ways Inspiring Us Today

The Ancient Way of Life - Inspiring a Better Today.

For as long as I can remember I have been enamored with the ancient Greek way of life.

I adore everything about this culture that spans thousands of years.  A culture that has created & cultivated western civilization from the language still used today, to the arts and sciences to the food, to the people to the exquisite artifacts and relics which are one with nature.

Looking back over the millennia we discover incredible and impeccable communities which created a way of life and a value system that developed the pillars to uphold values, ideas and practices still standing today.

These gifts, struggles sacrifices and breakthroughs of the ancients remain a crucial part of our 21st century human experience, and you could say all this filters through a type of archaeology.

However, archaeology is not one dimensional.  As this week’s podcast guest, Dr. Georgios, shared during the episode, archaeology is subdivided into various fields.   One can learn about prehistorical archeology, medieval or Byzantine archaeology.  There is also industrial and classical archaeology.  The total sum of archaeology demonstrates aspects of human identity and progress.

We can look back to the vast achievements and trials and errors of our ancestors and build upon their experience to help us live well, if not better.

All that we feel, touch, see, breathe and experience form the past carries with it emotion and memory.   We can learn from it, remember it, embrace it, be inspired and grow from witnessing these ancient things.

Looking back on my DNA, my roots, my ancestors and the ancient life if you will, directs my navigation to living a fulfilled existence for myself, my family and my community.

I do all this by visiting the land, eating the food, meeting the people, exploring the history, reading the stories, poems and classics.

I must know where I come from to know where I am going.  But for certain I want to enjoy the process, and I am in no rush.

In Greek poet C.P. Cavafy’s poem, he conveys the meaning of life, or as he calls it, Ithaka.  He notes that as we all try to achieve our goals and direction in life, it is important to not lose sight of the journey.

May we all consider the journey home, and that possibly it is the the Ithaki experience to breathe new life in our day to day.

Journey on friends and wishing you Ola Kala – all is well the entire way.

Filakia- kisses,

Kiki
